Our Mission is simple

Exotic handcrafted chocolates inspired by our south asian heritage.

Our Founder

Chef Uzma Sharif is the founder and chocolatier behind Chocolat Uzma a Chicago-based artisan chocolate house founded in 2011. With more than two decades of culinary experience, Uzma combines technique with the bold, unexpected flavors of her South Asian heritage. Her chocolates are inspired by ingredients and flavors she grew up with—cardamom, rose, pistachio, dates, turmeric, black salt and chili—reimagined through a contemporary lens. For Uzma, chocolate is a way to share culture, create connection, and make people curious about something they may not have tasted before. Each confection reflects her belief that great chocolate should be memorable—not simply because it satisfies a craving, but because it creates a moment worth remembering.

  • Where It All Began

Uzma was born and raised in the United States, growing up in a single-parent household in Chicago, Illinois. As a first-generation Pakistani American, life was not easy for her family. Despite the challenges, Uzma found solace in her creative side and began channeling her pain into art.

  • Discovering Her Calling

At the age of 18, Uzma discovered her talent for cooking and quickly caught the attention of the executive chef in the kitchen where she worked. She skipped college and moved to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado to attend culinary school.

  • Mastering The Art

After completing her culinary education, Uzma attended the French Pastry School studying under world-renowned chefs in Chicago and France.

  • Sharing Her Passion

In 2012 she opened her first retail store in Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago.
